Zur Vorlesungsreihe

Sozial-ökologische Transformationen in Richtung Nachhaltigkeit sind vor dem Hintergrund aktueller Krisen wie dem Klimawandel, Hochwasserereignissen und dem Verlust an Biodiversität notwendiger denn je. Die Rolle der Raum- und Umweltplanung in diesen Transformationsprozessen ist jedoch weitgehend ungeklärt. Zwar verschreibt sich die räumliche Planung dem Leitbild einer nachhaltigen Raumentwicklung, doch wird dieses in der Praxis vielfach nicht eingelöst, wie etwa der anhaltende Flächenverbrauch verdeutlicht. Kaum ausgearbeitet sind auch die Verbindungen und Brüche zwischen räumlicher Planung und Nachhaltigkeitstransformationen auf der theoretisch-konzeptionellen Ebene. Schließlich ist auch die Frage nach der Rolle von Planer:innen wichtig, um das Gelingen und Scheitern von Transformationsprozessen zu verstehen.

Im Rahmen der Ringvorlesung „Planning for socio-ecological transformations – theoretical approaches and political consequences” werden acht Expert:innen der Raum- und Planungswissenschaften diese und weitere Fragen vor dem Hintergrund ihrer eigenen Forschungen diskutieren. Interessierte Wissenschaftler:innen, Studierende sowie die Fachöffentlichkeit sind herzlich eingeladen an diesen Diskussionen teilzunehmen.

On the lecture series

Socio-ecological transformations towards sustainability are more necessary than ever against the backdrop of current crises such as climate change, flooding and the loss of biodiversity. However, the role of spatial and environmental planning in these transformation processes is largely unclear. Although spatial planning is committed to the guiding principle of sustainable spatial development, this is often not realized in practice, as illustrated by the ongoing land consumption. The connections and breaks between spatial planning and sustainability transformations at the theoretical-conceptual level have also hardly been worked out. Finally, the question of the role of planners is also important in order to understand the success and failure of transformation processes.

Within the lecture series "Planning for socio-ecological transformations – theoretical approaches and political consequences", eight experts in spatial and planning sciences will discuss these and other questions against the background of their own research. Academics, students and the interested public are invited to take part in these discussions.
